An expert who works in agriculture and businessman noted the challenges of identifying innovative solutions and developing strategies for future interventions, during the ‘Promotion of Sustainable Agricultural Value Chains in ASEAN (ASEAN AgriTrade)’.
This was the topic discussed during a panel session on ‘Ways Forward for Agricultural Value Chain Development in Cambodia’, attended by speakers who are working on agriculture and businessmen to make future interventions.
Chau Lon Molika, CEO and Co-founder of Cambodian standard Development and Supply Co., Ltd, said that there are two main challenges that come from producers and consumers.
She stressed that producers are facing a lack of technology, while consumers worry about the price of products more than quality. “What we had learned from this we still provide them an education both of producer and consumer.”
She also explained what she can do with the farm: select some seed with weather resistance and look at the abilities of product seeds but her own. Grant support and experts in the agriculture field had educated farmers.
Soeun Sothnita, Co-founder Development Management Farmers, noted that local farms grow similar crops to each other, in addition climate change is impacting productivity.
“We tried to set up this company to teach them to produce good quality cashews, earn a regular income and create jobs for them in Stung Treng province,” Sothnita said.
He added that training farmers on how to use an app in smartphones to predict the weather, including how to produce natural fertilizer and cut down on spending on imports from other countries, is key.
