PROTECTING YOUR IP IN CAMBODIA: EXPLORING CUSTOMS REGISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT STRATEGIES PROTECTING YOUR IP IN CAMBODIA: EXPLORING CUSTOMS REGISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT STRATEGIES
DetailsBackgroundIntellectual property (IP) is a set of ownership rights that protects a person's or a company's creation. These rights are important for enterprises because they cannot only be used to protect products but can also be used as a beneficial business tool.In September 2024, Cambodia launched the trial phase of its Intellectual Property Rights Recordation System (IPPRS) – a groundbreaking new initiative to enhance the country’s IP enforcement mechanisms. This system enables rights holders to register their trademarks, patents, and copyrights with the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), allowing customs officials to act promptly against suspected counterfeit goods. By safeguarding authentic products, promoting fair trade practices, and enhancing trust in Cambodia’s IP framework, the IPPRS is set to attract increased investment and support economic growth. In this context, EuroCham Cambodia, in association with the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, is organising a webinar on "Protecting Your IP in Cambodia: Exploring Customs Registration and Enforcement Strategies" on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 from 3 pm – 4 pm (GMT+7).
